BACKFLOW TESTING &
PREVENTION FROM ZONA PLUMBING

WHAT IS BACKFLOW?

Backflow is when water flows backwards into your water supply instead of out of it due to a change of pressure. If the source of the backflow is your lawn irrigation system, this can introduce chemicals from fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides into your drinking water. If the source is your sewer or septic system, your potable water can be contaminated with wastewater. No matter where the backflow is sourced from, though, it can make your water at worst, undrinkable, and at most, dangerous to your health.

TESTING YOUR BACKFLOW PREVENTER KEEPS YOUR WATER CLEAN

Protect your clean drinking water with a backflow preventer. There are many types of preventers, and if you do not have one, the master plumber at Zona Plumbing can recommend the backflow preventer that will work best on your system and install it for you. We test backflow preventers to make sure they are working correctly. If you need your backflow tested, repaired, or replaced, contact Zona Plumbing to keep your drinking water clean: (412) 754-1824.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD MY BACKFLOW PREVENTER BE TESTED?

To ensure the highest amount of water safety, your backflow preventer should be tested annually. It should also be tested immediately after repair, relocation, or maintenance. Assemblies that have failed repeatedly may require more frequent testing or replacement. Prevention assemblies have internal seals, springs, and moving parts that experience typical wear. Regular testing ensures the assemblies are functioning properly. If there are any parts that have failed, or are in danger of failing, Zona Plumbing can repair or replace them. We can also replace the whole system if necessary.

According to the PA Safe Drinking Water Act, Title 25, Chapter 109.709, it is the homeowner’s responsibility to provide functioning backflow prevention devices to prevent contamination of the public potable water system. If you do not have a backflow preventer, or you do not get your preventer tested annually, your water company can discontinue your service. For more information about the backflow policies of the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County, contact Zona Plumbing or contact the county directly at: 844-605-5213.
